  • Origin and Evolution

The Arab College of Applied Sciences was established in 1999 to provide academic services to the Palestinian community in various fields. It is considered the first college in the city of Rafah, which is located in the far south of the Gaza Strip on the borders of Egypt. Rafah is considered to be one of the oldest Palestinian cities with an estimated area of 55 km², and its population reached about 380,000 people by 2019. Aiming at graduating scientifically and professionally qualified cadres who are able to work in various fields, the college allows high school graduates and workers in public and private civil society institutions to acquire technical and vocational skills to keep pace with the successive development witnessed by the world. These academic services provided by the college aims mainly at producing generations who are capable of engaging in the labor market and providing what is useful to their society.

Being the only academic institution in the south of the Gaza Strip that offered university education at that time, it decided to emphasize its importance, taking the initiative to open new specializations. Then, it managed by 2009 to change from a college that grants an intermediate diploma to a (university college) that grants a bachelor’s degree. Successfully, it attracted the best academic expertise from holders of doctorate and master’s degrees, and provided a qualified administrative cadre in various units and departments striving to provide the best services and supply the local market with elite graduates who occupied important positions in local and regional institutions in the public and private sectors. In addition, its graduates continued developing their academic path by obtaining a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree.

In the light of improving the quality of education outputs and enhancing its suitability according to the needs of the local and regional labor market, the college established the Arab Center for Business and Technology Innovation, Continuing Education and Local Community Service Center. In continuation with the development program in the college, as well as to complete the goals for which the college was mainly established, aiming to serve a wide segment of students and provide distinguished technical education; a new college branch was opened in the North Governorate of Gaza Strip in 2017, and extra efforts are exerted on developing all diploma and bachelor programs at the college in accordance with international standards and requirements that meet the needs of the local and regional community.
